The city of Mostar made the headlines for the fierce religious and political fightings between opposing warring factions during the Balkan War. The old bridge spanning the river Neretva and connecting the muslim (left of picture) and orthodox (right of picture) neighborhoods was destroyed in the process. UNESCO, the World Bank and the City of Mostar rebuilt it as part of the fragile reconciliation efforts.
